Attributes

In 2021, to help bring further transparency towards our products, we introduced our attributes so that our customers can make better, informed decisions while purchasing their products. It’s the very same way we look at nutritional contents of the food we eat - via our attributes, we are working towards bringing you simple, clear information about each product that we produce.

Hand Made

The garment incorporates by-hand methods within its design.

Organic

The fibres of the garment have been produced without the use of pesticides/insecticides.

Recycled

The materials used to craft the garment are recycled.

Upcycled

The garment is crafted using materials from our own dead stock/leftover fabric scraps.

Minimise Waste

The waste created when making this garment is utilised sustainably (i.e. fabric waste is saved to craft something new.)

Natural Fabric

The fibres of this garment come from a natural, renewable source.

Vegan

No animal by-products are used to create the garment.

Made in India

Production for the garment is all conducted in India.

It is important to us that we honor our roots. We always want to uplift those who help us create our garments so we often collaborate with ethical NGOs and similar establishments as a priority, joining hands with underprivileged / small but mighty communities to create.

Our roots also involve Indian crafts, the traditional arts that we hope to nurture and grow as they also often produce more sustainably than our modern processes.

Handwoven Organic Cotton

A labour of love and true artisanship, this fabric is created by hand from start to finish. The fibre is produced without the use of pesticides, spun then woven by hand by craft communities. We currently collaborate with WomenWeave to create this fabric.

Block Printing

This method is famously one that has been honed and upheld by craft communities in Rajasthan for centuries. From creating the shades and carving the printing blocks to manually printing the fabrics, each step is done by hand.

Handwoven Kala Cotton

Another fabric created completely by hand, what makes this fibre special is that it is indigenous to the Kachchh region of India. It is particularly resilient in harsh conditions meaning it thrives naturally without need of much maintenance. We currently collaborate with Khamir Crafts to create this fabric.

We are committed to using herbal dyes, sustainable fabrics, and practicing a zero-waste fabric policy where we upcycle our fabric scrap into accessories. The fashion industry is one that has long ignored its harmful impact, but we’re on a mission to change that.

Dyeing with no consequences.

Within our own process, we are proud to say that 60% of all our garments are herbal dyed, as in the dyes are formed from natural ingredients provided by Bio Dye, our ethical partner based in Maharastra. The remaining are azo-free dyed to ensure that we stay away from chemicals that are harmful and polluting.

Being sustainable from fiber to fabric has always been one of our core objectives.

The fabrics we choose play a huge role in helping us do better & create better. They are what determine what sort of impact we're making on our environment. By choosing organic, we're choosing not to utilise chemicals that could be harmful to the overall ecosystem as well as farmers. By using by-hand methods, we're reducing our energy/electricity use which contributes to higher carbon emissions. Every choice in these stages matters and we do our best to choose wisely to achieve the greenest results.

We are working towards zero waste.

Within production, we always aim to save as much as we can. Every little bit of fabric that falls to the workshop floor is picked up and put aside to be used for other projects like our accessories that are all upcycled. We also produce minimally so that we do not overproduce, this means keeping low stock and creating on a made-to-order basis.

We call our tailors our threadspellers because they are the ones who add the form to our designs.

We learnt early on from our parent company, Sue Mue, what it means to treat all those who work with you with love and respect. Our threadspellers are like an extension of our family. They have a safe place to work, they are paid more than fair wages, and are looked after beyond the workspace when needed.
They are the heart of Sui.

How did they learn their craft?

"I grew up in a family of tailors so I had always had a passion for creating garments. They encouraged me to take up this work and I have been a tailor since 2013." - Hanif, SUI threadspeller.

Craft in India is often passed down generation to generation and so, many of our threadspellers come from families who have worked in the same or similar kinds of spaces which led them to honing their skills. However, some of our threadspellers also developed a passion for the art at young ages and pursued it to lead them to craft with us!

Worker Welfare

Every team member is integral in our process. We understand that without them, we would not be able to do what we do and their hard work deserves appreciation and acknowledgement. We do this by providing a safe environment for them to work in, pay them well for their skills, as well as support them further if they ever need it.

Packaging can often be wasteful and, from the start of our journey, we wanted to find ways we could pivot that. From using biodegradable materials to simply recycling as much and often as we can, these are a few ways we can reduce our waste within our own production cycle.

What we do?

We use recycled packaging as much as possible, and also keep finding ways to upcycle all our fabric scraps to give them a new life. Plastic-free is our aim, and we are slowly working towards it - all the plastic we currently use is reused/recycled to help keep it in the system.

We believe that knowledge is power and knowledge should be shared far and wide. Education is an important pillar to our Sui family, inside the company and for our community. We constantly believe in growing as a team and sharing our resources with our community. We do this via the content we create. From the work we do to little steps which we can take as people towards the better of the planet..

What we do?

Knowledge is power and hence in every piece of content we create, in our packaging and via our campaigns and videos - we want to make sure we are sharing bits and piece of sustainability with our customer Each garment tag of our offers information on the textile, our website is filled with blogs and pages for our customers to learn & our social media handles are build not just to showcase our story but the why behind what we do.
